What Seattle U requires
Seattle University's Albers School of Business and Economics states it plainly: all Albers undergraduate students are required to pass the Excel certification exam to graduate. It applies to the whole undergraduate school, not one major.
Albers accepts results from the Excel 2016, 2019 or 365 exams. Certifications on Excel 2010 or earlier are not accepted. The Microsoft 365 version of the associate-level exam is MO-210, which is the exam we build practice for.
Students normally sit the exam in a session attached to their BUAN 3150 course, formerly IS 3150, or in an open session run by the school. Albers has run these in person on campus.
Since Spring 2024 the Registrar's Office requires students to report their own exam scores — Albers no longer submits them on a student's behalf. You complete a Non-Course Degree Requirement form through Seattle University e-Forms and attach your certificate, so keep the certificate somewhere you can find it.

Why passing on the first attempt matters
- This one is a graduation requirement for every Albers undergraduate, so there is no version of finishing the degree that goes around it.
- Because you now report your own score, a pass that never reaches the Registrar is a pass that does not count. Keep the certificate and file the form.
- Albers' own materials treat preparation as the thing that decides the outcome, and the school runs limited exam sessions — turning up unprepared costs you a session as well as an attempt.
- MO-210 is performance-based: you complete tasks in a live Excel workbook rather than answering multiple-choice questions about Excel. Reading about Excel does not prepare you for that.
Albers' main Excel page points students at the Excel 2019 Associate exam, MO-200. Its graduation-requirement page says results from Excel 2016, 2019 or 365 are all accepted, and the 365 exam is MO-210. Our practice exams are built against MO-210's objective domain. The two exams overlap heavily but are not identical, so confirm with Albers which one your exam session is booked for before you prepare for the wrong one.

Seattle U Excel certification FAQ
Is Excel certification really required to graduate from Albers?
Yes. Seattle University's Albers School states that all Albers undergraduate students are required to pass the Excel certification exam to graduate. It is a school-wide undergraduate requirement rather than a single major's rule.
Which Excel exam does Seattle University accept?
Albers accepts results from the Excel 2016, 2019 or 365 exams, and does not accept Excel 2010 or earlier. The Microsoft 365 associate-level exam is MO-210. Their main page separately points students at the 2019 exam, MO-200, so confirm which one your session is booked for.
How does my score reach the Registrar?
You report it yourself. Since Spring 2024 the Registrar's Office requires students to submit their own Excel exam scores, using the Non-Course Degree Requirement form on Seattle University e-Forms with the certificate attached. Albers no longer reports scores for students.
Where do I take the exam?
Most students take it in a session linked to BUAN 3150, formerly IS 3150, or in an open session run by the school. Albers has run these in person on campus. Check the school's current arrangements before assuming a remote option exists.
Can I retake it if I fail?
Albers has offered one free retake with each paid exam session, and students may sit the exam more than once. Confirm the current terms with the school, since session availability and fees change.
I am applying to the Albers Early Career MBA. Does this apply to me?
That programme lists an Excel Certificate among its prerequisite courses, alongside Basic Accounting, Statistics and Math for Management. Seattle University says these are not required to apply and that some or all prerequisites may be waived depending on your undergraduate coursework, with transcripts evaluated during admissions. Your acceptance letter is where you find out what you still owe.
