The consequence is unusually blunt for a proficiency rule. The college states that students who do not demonstrate Microsoft Excel proficiency prior to beginning MBA 687 will be withdrawn from the course, which may delay completion of the MBA Program. This is not a recommendation with a nudge attached.
A certification is explicitly one of the accepted routes. Alongside the MBA Math Spreadsheets section, the college says additional preparation may include an exam or a Microsoft Excel Certification, which can be completed online or in person with a program of the student's choice.
That last phrase matters: Providence does not tie you to one provider. Any legitimate route to a Microsoft Excel certification is open, and the current associate-level exam on Microsoft 365 Apps is MO-210.
