How GTCC prepares you
OST 238, Integrated Office Applications, is a three-credit course with OST 137 or OST 138 as its prerequisite. Its published student learning outcomes say the student will “Prepare for Microsoft Office Specialist Excel: Associate by applying the advanced functions of Excel on course projects.”
The course description adds that on completion students “should be proficient in using the latest software applications to design customizable documents and be prepared to take a nationally accredited certification exam.” That is the whole of what GTCC commits to: preparation, not certification.
Nothing in the catalog makes passing the exam a condition of your grade, the course, the program or graduation. If you take OST 238 and never sit a certification exam, nothing happens to your standing. The certification is something the course leaves you ready for, and whether to go and get it is your call.

Why the certification is worth having
- A certification is one of the few things on a transcript a hiring manager can verify independently — it is checkable with Microsoft, not a claim about a grade.
- If you transfer, the credential travels with you even where course credit is negotiated down. Some four-year business programs gate their own admission on exactly this certification.
- OST 238 gets you ready for the exam; it does not tell you whether you are ready. A timed practice exam under real conditions is the cheapest way to find out before you pay for a voucher.
- A MOS certification does not expire, so passing once during the course is a credential you keep.
The course’s other two outcomes name Microsoft Office Specialist Word: Associate and PowerPoint: Associate. We build practice exams for Excel only, so this page is useful for a third of what OST 238 prepares you for. For the Word and PowerPoint parts you will need something else.
The outcome says “Microsoft Office Specialist Excel: Associate” with no version attached. The associate-level Excel exam is MO-210 for Microsoft 365 Apps and MO-200 for Office 2019, and those are different exams. We build for MO-210. Ask your instructor which one your section targets before you pay for a voucher — we are not going to guess on your behalf.

Nothing in the catalog makes passing it a condition of your grade, the course, the program or graduation.
Which exam does OST 238 prepare me for?
The associate-level MOS Excel exam. GTCC’s catalog does not name a version, and there are two: MO-210 for Microsoft 365 Apps and MO-200 for Office 2019. We build for MO-210. Confirm with your instructor which one your section uses.
Is this practice exam the same as the real MOS exam?
