How Atlantic Cape prepares you
CISM 162, Microsoft Excel, is a three-credit course in the Computer Information Systems catalog. Its description says it “Prepares the student to take two Microsoft industry certification exams: MOS Excel Associate and MOS Excel Expert.”
The course description also says it “Provides both Microsoft Office Specialist (MOS) Excel Associate and MOS Excel Expert Certification spreadsheet topics,” including worksheets and workbooks, tables, charts, PivotTables and PivotCharts, custom formatting, and formulas and advanced formulas.
CISM 162 is also one of the elective choices in the Microsoft Office Credentials program, whose listed outcomes are earning Microsoft Office Specialist credentials. Nothing on the catalog pages we read makes passing an exam a condition of a grade in the course, of the program or of graduation. The course prepares you to take the exams; whether to sit them is your call.

Why the certification is worth having
- A certification is one of the few things on a transcript a hiring manager can verify independently. It is checkable with Microsoft, not a claim about a grade.
- Atlantic Cape’s own credentials page describes these credentials as a way to help “differentiate yourself in a competitive job market.”
- The course gets you ready for the exam; it does not tell you whether you are ready. A timed practice exam under real conditions is the cheapest way to find out before you pay for a voucher.
- A MOS certification does not expire, so passing once during the course is a credential you keep.
The course description says “MOS Excel Associate” and “MOS Excel Expert” with no version attached. The associate exam is MO-210 for Microsoft 365 Apps and MO-200 for Office 2019, and those are different exams; the Expert exam likewise has a Microsoft 365 Apps version (MO-211) and an Office 2019 version. We build for MO-210 and MO-211. Ask your instructor which version your section targets before you buy a voucher; we are not going to guess for you.
CISM 162 covers both Associate and Expert topics, so a practice exam at one level is useful for only part of it. CISM 162 is also just one elective in the Microsoft Office Credentials program, whose credentials involve Word, PowerPoint, Outlook and Access exams. We build Excel practice only, so we do not help with those.

Which exam does CISM 162 prepare me for?
The catalog names MOS Excel Associate and MOS Excel Expert and does not name a version. Associate is MO-210 for Microsoft 365 Apps and MO-200 for Office 2019. We build for MO-210 and MO-211, so confirm with your instructor which version your section uses.
Is this practice exam the same as the real MOS exam?
